Clif Pro Team To Saddle Up On Astute Italia

San Jose, California,– April 13, 2017– The Clif Pro Team (formerly LunaChix Pro) will be racing into year sixteen with a fresh name and a fresh new saddle partner. The longest running and most successful women’s elite mountain bike and cyclo-cross team in bike racing history resume the Clif Pro Team name for 2017 and settles on a new perch: Astute Italia.

“We are thrilled to be on Astute for the next couple of years. The Italian-made quality and comfort are fantastic and our athletes have taken to them immediately, said Dave McLaughlin, CLIF Pro Team’s General Manager. “It’s exceptional as we have traditionally been pretty finicky when it comes to saddles.”

The three years old high-performance, handmade Italian brand Astute Italia, was established with the goal of keeping Italian saddle manufacturing heritage alive. Despite being a newcomer to the saddle category, Astute Italia enters the USA with experience and expertise. Involved in the brand’s product design is a former Selle Italia product designer who during that tenure was instrumental in the execution of Selle Italia’s most iconic saddle models including the Flite, the Turbo, and the SLR.

The Astute Italia concept is based on maximizing comfort for better-pedaling efficiency. This theory of greater comfort contributing to efficiency is based on less core movement while in the saddle. Less core movement is possible through the use of Astute Italia’s triple density memory foam. Memory foam means molds to the body when heated – a natural occurrence from the body’s weight.

Astute offers a 5-step process to choosing the saddle that fits best. The process starts with defining a cycling discipline and then choosing from one of two widths. Next, a round or flat shell dependent upon anticipated type riding (longer or shorter distances) is chosen, followed by the selection of rail material, which affects the saddle’s overall flexibility. Lastly, Astute applies a rating system to four characteristics that are most critical to the user.

Most of the Clif Pro Team women chose flat shells with carbon rails, a pressure relief cut-out and a grippy (Taca) cover. The team – which includes eight of the world’s best female mountain bike and cyclo-cross pro cyclists in USA’s Lea Davison, Hannah Finchamp and Haley Batten; Canada’s Maghalie Rochette and Catharine Pendrel; Italy’s Eva Lechner; Czach native Katerina Nash and Switzerland’s Andrea Waldis – will debut the saddles at the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, California.
